Bursitis

Ponca City Oklahoma Chiropractor Dr. Leon Bristow, D.C. talks about what bursitis is. If we break the word down we have burs which stands for bursa which is a sac and then we have itis which means irritation or inflamation. First we will look at what a bursa is. It is a fluid field sac that acts as shield or guard to protect tendons from rubbing on another surface like bone and causing damage or being damaged. If the bursa sac was not there then the tendon would be damaged over time as it rubs over a hard, ruff, or even somewhat sharp surface. There are only a few of these bursa sacs in the body as there are only a few locations in the body where this would cause a tendon to have this problem. The shoulders, hips and knees are the most common sites for this problem occur, although there are a few other bursa in the body.

The itis in the word means that the bursa sac is being irritated and has become inflamed. This means the bursa sac has more fluid in it than normal which is what causes the pain. The problem then is an abnormal increase in the fluid of a bursa sac usually from some type of irritation. This excess inflamation causes severe pain. Many people often struggle to recover or get well from this problem. When the proper treatment is not received this can be a difficult problem to recover from often taking a very long time.

The good news is that with the use of the proper nutritional supplement, a little in office care, and the proper home care this problem can often be cleared up very quickly. The unfortunate thing is these problems are often not treated properly and can go on for a very long time. Bursitis is a treatable condition that you can recover from.
