Neck Pain
Ponca City Oklahoma Chiropractor Dr. Leon Bristow reveals what neck pain is and how it can be helped. Every body knows what neck pain is right? It is a pain in the neck. Simple, you hurt in your neck. Your neck is the part between your head and your shoulders. The real question we should be asking here is what is causing the pain in the neck. Once we know what is truly causing it, then we can begin to fix it. So what do we have in the neck that could cause pain? First we should look at what things make up the neck in order to understand why your neck has pain. We have some bones, some discs between the bones, then we have some ligaments holding the bones together, then we have some tendons hooked to the bones, then we have the muscles hooked to the tendons, then we have some nerves that come out of the neck that run to and through the tissues of the neck. That is just about it for the parts of the neck. So if we are having a problem that is causing pain in the neck what is most likely the cause? The bones are moved and held in place by the tissues. If a bone gets out of place it is unlikely that it is the problem all by its self since the tissues hold and move the bones. It is much more likely that the supporting tissues of the neck are in trouble and are either damaged or malfunctioning in some manner. When we injure something in the neck it is unlikely that it is the bone unless you were in a severe accident. So it is more often the tissues that get damaged or injured in some fashion that cause the neck to hurt. The tissues that get damaged most often in the neck are the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Discs do get damaged also but much less often than the tendons and ligaments. So it is the tissues that are the most common source of pain in the neck. Second is mechanical pressure on the nerve or what most people refer to as a pinched nerve. The pinched nerve is likely the result of damaged tissue in the neck which both cause the neck to hurt. While there are other things that could cause pain in the neck they occur much less often. So the two most common causes for neck pain are pinched nerves and damaged tissue which is precisely what I focus on treating with Directional Pressure Therapy to help get rid of your pain quickly. DPT allows me to accurately identify where the tissue in the neck are damaged and then begin the repair process of these damaged neck tissues. This is the key to helping speed up the healing process and get you out of pain. I help the body heal the damaged neck tissues and remove the mechanical problems causing the pinched nerves which removes the pain. I know what neck pain feels like as I have had it myself in the past and speeding up the process is what we all desire. There is no faster way to get there than to find and treat all parts of the problem directly and help the body repair what is truly causing the problem.
