Neuralgia
Ponca City Oklahoma Chiropractor Dr. Leon Bristow talks about what neuralgia is and how you can be helped. According to Stedman’s online medical dictionary it is “Pain of a severe, throbbing, or stabbing character in the course or distribution of a nerve.” The key point here is that it follows the course or distribution of a nerve. If we break down the word we find that neur means nerve and algia means pain. So the two parts of the word mean basically nerve pain. A very famous one that most every one has heard of is called sciatica. Sciatica gets its name from the nerve it affects. Most other’s are not named. What we are talking about is a pain that follows the very distinct path of a nerve. This type of pain pattern usually means the nerve is being compromised or injured somewhere along the course of the nerve. It could also be compromised in more than one place along the course of the nerve. This is important as so many times treatment is focused at only one area, the most common source of the problem, which leaves other possible problems untreated. This can mean that the problem does not get better or makes only some progress but never goes away completely because the other areas causing the problem are left untreated. All possible sources where the nerve is being compromised must be found and treated or the problem will not resolve. The good news is that this problem can be treated and usually resolves quickly when all parts of the problem are treated properly. In my office I work to find all parts of the problem and treat each one properly. Nerve problems can sometimes be a complicated issue to treat. No stone is left unturned in trying to stop your neuralgia quickly.
