If we look at Stedman's online dictionary we find it is "A classical term for any disorder affecting any segment of the nervous system." and if we look at Medline Plus online dictionary we find it is "an abnormal and usually degenerative state of the nervous system or nerves." It is quite simply a term used to describe damage of a nerve or nerves anywhere in the body. The term does not tell you where the nerve damage is in the body except that it is affecting a nerve or nerves somewhere. The term does not tell you what is affecting the nerve or nerves. The term does not tell you how the nerves are being affected. It just simply means the nerve or nerves are in trouble. It is a term that tells you that a nerve or nerves are damaged, in trouble, or malfunctioning in some manor. Damage to the nerve is often a very painful condition. If the proper treatment for the damaged nerve is not given the damage can become permanent over time. There are any number of potential causes for this nerve damage. The nerves are often being damaged from mechanical problems however they can also be damaged from nutritional problems as well. Damaged nerves are a common problem that I treat on a daily basis. Once the mechanical problem is removed that is causing the nerve damage then it has the chance to get well. If the problem causing the nerve damage is nutritional that is treatable as well.
