What are the causes of Pain?
Ponca City Oklahoma Chiropractor Dr. Leon Bristow talks about pain. When we start looking at all the things that cause you to hurt we find that there are only a few. Lets see what they are. A common source of discomfort is drugs. While different drugs may cause you to hurt in different ways, they are still the cause of your discomfort. A second problem that can be the cause of your discomfort is a disease. Diseases can cause all kinds of aches and hurts. Again different diseases may cause you to hurt in different ways yet the disease is still the cause of you hurting. A third problem and one that is often over looked is dietary and nutritional deficiencies. There are many dietary and nutritional deficiencies that can cause problems that lead to you hurting either directly or indirectly, some even lead to death if not corrected. The fourth cause of your discomfort is mechanical. Mechanical can include things like nerve damage and tissue damage of a mechanical origin like a fall, a cut, a sprain, or auto accident. Again like the other causes, mechanical injury can have many different ways that it occurred but it is still the cause and it still hurts. And yet a fifth cause is exposure to extremes of hot or cold. Extremes of hot or cold would cause burns or frost bite both of which are painful. And a sixth cause is exposure to chemicals like a strong acid which can harm the body. So, the list is drugs, disease, dietary and nutritional deficiencies, mechanical damage, burns, frost bite, and damage from chemicals. What we need to look at next is how each of these things are causing you to hurt. The point is they are all causing damage to the bodies tissues in some way which causes the body to hurt. If we look at the nerve receptors designed to send the pain signal we see that there are only three types. One is designed to detect damage from hot and cold. One is designed to fire when there are chemicals that are damaging to the body. And the last one is designed to be triggered when there is physical damage to the body like from a fall or auto accident. This one is a mechanical receptor. We basically have thermal, chemical, and mechanical receptors that tell us when we are damaged or getting damaged. The signal from these nerve receptors is designed to tell us that something is wrong and let us know we are hurt. Thus the pain signal is telling us that something is injured, damaged or is about to be. It is designed to keep you from causing further damage to yourself. It is designed to sound the alarm until everything is repaired and back to normal. When you hurt the body is trying to notify you of an important problem that needs your attention and proper care to stop the discomfort. Of the above things that can be the source of your problem I treat two of the larger problems that are often misunderstood or over looked as the source of your discomfort. The problems I focus my care on are dietary and nutritional deficiencies and the mechanical damage. These two problems are likely larger than all of the other causes combined. Thus I first identify what is the causing you to hurt. Once identified, if the cause is one of the many common problems I treat every day, then we can begin treatment to help your body repair the source of your discomfort as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the most common approach to many of these types of problems is to attempt to cover up or hide the pain in hopes that the problem will go away on it’s own. This is often a poor choice and does nothing to correctly treat the cause of your discomfort. This is often a recipe for a problem that does not go away or get any better. A much better approach is always to correctly identify the source or cause of your discomfort so that the correct treatment can be given for that specific problem. This is the approach I use for all problems. I welcome all problems, especially if they have been unsuccessfully treated in the past. If you have a problem let’s get it properly identified so that you can get started on your road to recovery as soon as possible. It is time to put an end to your discomfort.
