Pulled Muscle
Ponca City Oklahoma Chiropractor Dr. Leon Bristow talks about what a pulled muscle is and how it can be repaired. Basically a muscle pull is damage or injury to the muscle. If we take a close look at a muscle we see that the muscle is made up of two things. One is the muscle cell that does the work and the second is the connective tissue that surrounds the muscle cell. This connective tissue that surrounds the muscle cell is called fascia and it is what transmits the force generated by the muscle cell. The fascia connects to the tendon which is also connective tissue. The tendon then anchors to the bone. When we have a muscle pull the muscle cell may or may not be injured. The connective tissue on the other hand will always be injured. The fascia is the connective tissue that will get injured weather a muscle cell gets damaged or not. This is the design of the body to protect the muscle cells as much as possible. The important point here is that the connective tissue is always damaged and must be repaired before the muscle can function properly again. The connective tissue is what gets damaged in a muscle pull. What we call damaged muscle, muscle strain, muscle sprain, or muscle pull are all the same thing, damage to the connective tissues. If the muscle cell gets badly damaged or torn then the muscle cell is dead and we do not grow new muscle cells. This is why the design of the body is to have the fascia get damaged and spare the muscle cell if at all possible. If every time we get injured we lost a bunch of muscle cells then over time we would not have many left. So what gets injured is the connective tissue which is made up of three fibers. These fibers are what get damaged in a muscle pull. The damaged connective tissue is what I specialize in treating. The procedure I use is designed to speed the healing and repair of all connective tissues. The procedure I use to repair a pulled muscle is called Directional Pressure Therapy. DPT was designed to heal and repair the damaged connective tissue. Eliminating pain and restoring the body to normal healthy function is my number one priority in practice. Helping the body to repair damaged muscle is a critical part of eliminating pain. The good news is that a muscle pull can be repaired in most cases.
