Sciatica

Ponca City Oklahoma Chiropractor Dr. Leon Bristow talks about what sciatica is and how it can be helped. It is a term that gets its name from the sciatic nerve that comes out of the low back and goes down the center of the back of the leg all the way to the foot. This main nerve trunk is called the sciatic nerve. The problem in this case is that this nerve is in trouble and is being compromised in some manor which is causing the pain that follows the course of this nerve exactly. The pain does not have to go the entire length of the sciatic nerve, although it can. Sciatic nerve pain is usually a very painful condition. Many people mistakenly think they have this problem simply because they have some pain in the low back or in the hip or in the leg. Not all pain in these areas are related to the sciatic nerve. Only pain that follows the course of the sciatic nerve exactly for some distance is sciatic nerve pain. It seems that everyone has heard of this term and they tend to call any pain they have in the back or leg by this name. Sciatic pain is not as common as many of our other problems that can cause pain in these areas. It requires a significant compromise of the nerve. There are many other more common problems that cause similar pain. There is usually some damaged tissue somewhere around the nerve contributing to the irritation and compromise of the nerve.

This is a problem that can normally be treated successfully once all the factors that are causing the nerve to be compromised are understood. This is a multifaceted problem that requires all of the factors causing the problem to be addressed properly before the sciatic pain can be resolved. This is what I work to correct at Bristow Chiropractic. This is accomplished by precisely finding the damaged tissue then working to stabilize and repair the damaged tissue while at the same time working to reduce the inflamation caused by the damaged tissue and reducing the stress placed on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica when properly treated can be resolved and the person restored to normal. Please call 580-762-7634 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
